Fastener Point has its in-house Heat treatment Plant at our factory in Umm-al-Quwain and is successfully operating since 2009, complementary to our fabrication unit. This plant is capable of Heat treatment as per required standards of threaded and unthreaded material with an optimum output unit.
Heat treatment involves the use of heating or chilling, normally to extreme temperatures, to achieve a desired result such as hardening or softening of a material. Heat treatment techniques include annealing, case hardening, precipitation strengthening, tempering, carburizing, normalizing and quenching.
Heat treatment Parameters
Furnace Type: Induction Furnace
Hardening Temperature: About 875 oC
Furnace Capacity: 500 Kgs
Soak Time: 2 Hrs / Inch
Quenching Media: Oil
Tempering Temperature: 425 oC Min
Surface preparation
The hot rolled round bars are mechanically cleaned using a wire brush for light scale removal or a powered wire brush is used for heavy scale removing.
Hardening Operation
The cleaned round bars are loaded in the induction type furnace and are heated to about 875 Deg Celsius. Once this anesthetizing temperature is achieved uniformly the material is soaked at this temperature for about 2 hours per inch thickness of material. The material is quenched in water to achieve a thorough martensite micro structure which has a hardness in excess of 55 HRC.
Tempering Operation
The quenched round bars are re-heated to about 450 to 600 Deg Celsius depending upon the rod size and the depth of hardenability requiredand are held for around 2 hrs per inch thickness of material at this temperature to have a refined grain structure where in the hardness is reduced to the required level and more toughness is imparted to the steel.
The tempered steel exhibits better mechanical properties as regards to ductility and toughness.
